About me

Swiss born Eva Brunner lives and works in Berlin, Germany. She studied Communications (Major: Film & Photography) at the American College of Rome, Italy. After first jobs as a theatre photographer she started writing plays. In 1987 she moved to Berlin, working as a writer and translator. In 2005 she returned to photography. 2007-11 she was a masterclass student with Arno Fischer at the Ostkreuzschule Berlin, followed by workshops with Anders Petersen, Sven Marquardt & Wolfgang Zurborn. Eva was a co-founder of the producer's gallery exp12 in Berlin.

In her works Eva Brunner depicts the various layers of reality and their underlying narrative structures – their disruptions and fragmentations. She is intrigued with the complexity of identity („Being Barbara“) and the intricacies of nature within a world of artificiality („No Escape from Paradise“). Her new project "Perchance to dream" is a fictional diary oscillating between dream and reality - between snapshots and elaborate stagings - in collaboration with her model and partner in life, science fiction author Bernhard Kempen.

Perchance to dream
Button
Perchance to Dream takes us into a world between fantasy and reality, between authenticity and staging. Like in a daydream, we go on a journey with constantly changing sceneries in urban spaces and natural worlds, always at the intersection of privacy and public life. The main actor in this exploration is Eva's partner in life, Bernhard Kempen. Permanently present in the flow of the images, he takes on different roles as Bernhard and in his trans identity as Barbara.
